Initial situation

In order to create conditions for further growth, Novatec needed to make its global IT platform and application landscape quicker, more efficient and better performing. What was particularly challenging was mapping different, decentralized systems and applications in a central system while ensuring a more efficient and higher-quality overall system.

When converting the complex requirements, performance was crucial, as was the question of how many requests and processes could be done simultaneously. Other measures included largely avoiding duplicate entries and extensive coordination requirements.

Approach

During Proof of Concept, Novatec found that classic monitoring tools could not satisfactorily analyze business transactions at a granular level. It was consequently not possible to analyze the causes behind performance and stability problems in its complex software architecture in real time.

Our solution was to use PurePath Transaction Tracing technology from dynaTrace. This JEE application gave Novatec’s IT specialists a unique end-to-end view from user to code and runtime level to identify and solve architecture and performance problems. Various load tests were performed to determine how the system would behave under massive and competing access by virtual users.
